BENTSAI B80 vs B85: Choosing a 92 mm Wide-Format TIJ Printer

The BENTSAI B80 and B85 are wide-format thermal inkjet (TIJ) printers designed for large-character coding. They share a similar four-cartridge format, but the most important selection factor is the ink type required by the customer’s actual substrate.

BENTSAI’s current B85 manufacturer page documents a maximum print height of 92 mm, up to 40 lines and a maximum print area of 92 mm × 2100 mm. Older marketing material may use the rounded term “4-inch” or “100 mm”; for quotation and application approval, use the current specification of the model and regional configuration offered by PTS.
When the B80 may be suitable
Consider the BENTSAI B80 when the work is limited to tested porous or absorbent materials such as selected corrugated cartons, paper, wood, fibreboard or textile. Surface treatment and moisture can still affect the result, so the actual sample must be tested.
When the B85 may be suitable
Consider the BENTSAI B85 when the application may require a compatible solvent-based cartridge for selected plastic, glass, metal plate, aluminium foil, cable or other semi-porous/non-porous materials. “Solvent-based” does not mean every plastic, coating or oily surface will accept the ink. Adhesion, drying and durability depend on the exact material and environment.
Important selection questions
- What is the exact substrate, coating and surface condition?
- What print height, length, content and scan quality are required?
- Will one cartridge be used independently or will multiple heads be stitched?
- Is the process handheld or inline, and what is the real line speed?
- What rubbing, water, chemical, heat, cold or outdoor exposure must be tested?
- Which cartridge, chip and firmware configuration is compatible with the Malaysian model?
Prices, accessories and cartridge packages can change. Confirm the current quotation and packing list with PTS instead of relying on older online figures.
Sample testing before purchase
PTS recommends printing the customer’s real code on the actual material, then testing drying time, adhesion, readability, barcode/QR scan quality and the customer’s normal handling conditions. The customer should define and approve the acceptance criteria before routine use.
