A batch coding machine applies variable information such as batch references, manufacturing dates, expiry dates, counters, serial numbers and supported barcodes or QR codes. It can improve consistency and reduce manual writing, but the correct solution depends on the application.

Common reasons for batch coding

• Identify a production or packing lot
• Display dates and product information
• Support internal stock and quality-control workflows
• Improve readability compared with manual marking
• Print changing data without ordering new pre-printed packaging for every batch

It does not “print everything on any surface”

Print capability is limited by the printer, cartridge, print height, code design and substrate. Paper, untreated cartons, coated packaging, plastic, glass, metal, foil, pipes and timber require different assessment. Adhesion and durability must be tested on the actual product.

Select the right operating method

Handheld printers may suit short runs, large objects or several work areas. Supported inline printers can be assessed for a controlled conveyor. Consider production speed, product spacing, sensor or encoder needs, print distance and verification.

A printed code does not automatically establish traceability or regulatory compliance. The business must confirm the required information, records and validation process.
