AI-Assisted QR Code Content and TIJ Printing: A Verification Workflow for Malaysian Manufacturers
Reviewed: 7 September 2026
Artificial intelligence can help teams draft instructions, organise content or prepare a proposed data structure for smart packaging. It should not be treated as the authoritative source for batch numbers, expiry dates, serial numbers, product claims or regulated label information.
A Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) printer reproduces approved text or code artwork on a physical surface. It does not confirm that the source data, QR destination, barcode structure or regulatory content is correct. A dependable workflow therefore needs human approval, controlled data and print verification.
What “AI-assisted QR code printing” should mean
In a practical manufacturing workflow, AI may assist with drafting public-facing content, translating non-critical explanations, summarising approved information or helping a team plan the fields required in a record. The final URL, identifier and variable data should come from an authorised business system or approved owner.
The QR code should then be produced by a suitable code-generation tool, checked against the source record, imported into the supported printer workflow and tested after printing. Decorative or AI-generated QR artwork should never be assumed scannable without validation.
A controlled eight-step workflow
- Define the purpose: decide whether the code links to a webpage, document, service record, product information or an internal identifier.
- Choose the authoritative source: obtain the approved URL, text or identifier from the responsible system or person.
- Protect sensitive information: do not enter confidential production, customer or authentication data into a public AI service without company approval and an appropriate data policy.
- Generate the code: use a suitable barcode or QR tool and the required data format. AI output alone is not a controlled code-generation process.
- Approve the artwork and content: check spelling, destination, identifier, size, quiet zone and any human-readable text.
- Test printer compatibility: confirm that the selected BENTSAI model, data-import method and message size support the intended workflow.
- Print on the actual material: test the proposed ink on the final coated, laminated or untreated surface under realistic handling conditions.
- Verify and record: scan multiple printed samples with the devices used in practice, check readability after handling and retain the approved settings and sample.
BENTSAI handheld options for evaluation
- BENTSAI 6205BL — a 12.7 mm handheld coding option for text, dates and supported barcode or QR applications.
- BENTSAI 6210BL — a wider-print handheld option for applications that require a larger message area.
Available functions, file formats, database handling, print resolution and speed depend on the exact model, settings and configuration. Confirm the current product documentation and test the complete workflow before production.
Print quality still depends on the surface
A digitally correct QR code can fail after printing if it is too small, distorted, low contrast, placed on a curved area or affected by poor ink adhesion. Coatings, oil, dust, moisture, colour, surface treatment, print distance and operator movement can all influence the result.
Water-based and solvent-based cartridges serve different application groups, but no ink should be described as suitable for every material. Drying, rubbing, water exposure or other resistance requirements must be tested on the customer's actual sample.
What AI and TIJ do not guarantee
- AI does not guarantee that product, allergen, safety, authentication or regulatory information is accurate.
- A printed QR code does not by itself create a traceability system; the backend records, access controls and operating procedures are separate responsibilities.
- High print resolution does not guarantee scanning if the code design, size, contrast, material or printing movement is unsuitable.
- No printer or ink can guarantee permanent, waterproof or scratch-proof results on every surface and in every environment.
Customers are responsible for approving their source data, privacy and cybersecurity controls, code format, final label content and applicable product or regulatory requirements.

Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT or another AI create the production batch number?
It should not be the authoritative source. Production identifiers should come from the customer's approved ERP, database, production record or responsible personnel.
Can BENTSAI printers print QR codes?
Selected models support QR and barcode printing. Suitability depends on the exact model, code size, data workflow, material and verified scan result.
Does a high-resolution printer guarantee that every QR code will scan?
No. Source-code quality, size, contrast, quiet zone, surface shape, ink adhesion, print movement and the scanner all affect performance. Test multiple samples under realistic conditions.
