Why Cartridge Compatibility Matters for BENTSAI Printers: Chip Recognition and Equipment Damage Risks
Reviewed: 6 September 2026
Quick answer: Some BENTSAI ink cartridges use an identification or encoded chip as part of the printer-cartridge compatibility system. The exact functions can vary by printer, cartridge and firmware. Customers should therefore match the cartridge to the exact printer configuration instead of assuming that any physically similar cartridge will work safely.
Third-party, refilled or modified cartridges may not match the printer’s chip recognition, ink formulation, cartridge construction or operating requirements. An incompatible cartridge may cause recognition errors, unstable printing, leakage, blockage or, in some cases, damage to the printhead or printer electronics.
1. Why cartridge compatibility is more than physical size
Two cartridges can look similar but still differ in important ways, including:
- chip encoding or regional compatibility;
- ink formulation and intended substrate;
- cartridge and printhead condition;
- refilling or modification history;
- supported printer model or firmware;
- storage age and handling condition.
A cartridge fitting into the slot does not prove that it is recognised, suitable for the application or safe for continued operation.
2. What the chip may help the printer do
Depending on the BENTSAI model and cartridge, the chip may support cartridge identification, compatibility checking or communication of cartridge information to the printer. PTS does not claim that every chip performs the same functions, and we do not publish unsupported technical explanations about voltage control, droplet counting or warranty enforcement.
For an exact explanation, the printer model, firmware and cartridge identification must first be confirmed against the information available from BENTSAI.
3. Can a third-party cartridge damage the printer?
Yes, damage is possible when a cartridge is incompatible, defective, poorly refilled, leaking or improperly modified. Possible symptoms may include:
- cartridge not recognised or intermittent connection;
- missing nozzles, unstable print or repeated errors;
- ink leakage or contamination around the cartridge interface;
- blockage or premature printhead failure;
- in some cases, damage to the cartridge interface or printer electronics.
This does not mean that every third-party cartridge will cause damage. PTS cannot test or verify every third-party product in the market, so we cannot confirm its compatibility, formulation, condition or quality-control history.
4. Why PTS recommends genuine or confirmed-compatible cartridges
Using a genuine BENTSAI cartridge or a cartridge specifically confirmed by PTS for the exact Malaysian printer model reduces uncertainty about chip recognition, ink selection and product identity. It also gives the customer a clear channel for application advice and troubleshooting.
PTS does not guarantee that any ink will work on every surface. Even with a compatible cartridge, the ink must be selected and tested for the actual substrate, coating, oil, moisture, print distance and handling conditions.
5. Warranty and fault assessment
Do not assume that every cartridge-related problem is automatically covered or automatically excluded from warranty. Any warranty assessment remains subject to the applicable manufacturer terms, equipment condition, operating history and inspection of the affected printer and cartridge.
If a fault occurs, stop using a leaking, damaged or repeatedly unrecognised cartridge. Keep the printer, cartridge and purchase information available for inspection instead of discarding the evidence.
6. Checks before buying a cartridge
- Confirm the exact printer model and market configuration.
- Provide the current cartridge identification or a clear photo.
- State the material and information to be printed.
- Ask whether the cartridge chip is recognised by that printer configuration.
- Review available SDS and technical information for the exact ink.
- Check storage condition and product packaging.
- Run a sample test on the actual material before production use.
- Retain the invoice and cartridge batch information.
7. Warning signs during operation
Stop and seek advice if you observe persistent recognition errors, leakage, unusual heat or odour, repeated electrical errors, or a sudden major change in print quality. Do not bypass chip recognition, modify the cartridge contacts or continue operating a visibly leaking cartridge.
Frequently asked questions
Does the chip alone prove that a cartridge is genuine?
No. Product source, packaging, identification and purchase records should also be checked.
Can PTS confirm every compatible third-party cartridge?
No. PTS can confirm the cartridges supplied or specifically evaluated by us for the relevant printer configuration.
Will a compatible cartridge print on any material?
No. Printer compatibility and surface compatibility are separate matters. Test the exact ink and material.
Can I refill an empty cartridge?
PTS does not recommend assuming that a refilled cartridge will remain compatible or reliable. Refilling quality, chip status, printhead condition and ink formulation can affect operation.
What should I send PTS for checking?
Send the printer model, serial or configuration information where relevant, cartridge identification, photos of any error, purchase source, substrate and required print content.
