White TIJ Ink in Malaysia: A Practical Guide to Limitations, Testing and Stock Planning
White thermal inkjet (TIJ) ink can solve one specific problem: making a code visible on a dark surface. It is not simply black ink in another colour, and it should not be treated as the default choice for every production line.
Opaque white inkjet formulations commonly rely on suspended pigment particles. That helps create contrast, but it also means the ink may need closer attention to storage, idle time and nozzle condition than many commonly used black dye-based inks. White ink solves a specific visibility problem
A black date, batch number or identification code may be difficult to see on black or dark-coloured packaging. A suitable white ink can provide a lighter code where that contrast is genuinely needed.
Possible applications include dark plastic parts, coated components, cables and dark packaging. These examples are not a promise of compatibility. Two materials that look similar can have different coatings, surface energy, texture or contamination. Those differences can affect contrast, drying and adhesion.
Suitability should therefore be decided with a sample test using the exact printer, cartridge and production material under realistic handling conditions.
Why pigmented white TIJ ink needs more planning
Many black dye-based inks carry colourant dissolved in the liquid. Opaque white inkjet formulations commonly use pigment particles to create hiding power on a dark background. Suspended particles can be more difficult to keep evenly dispersed than dissolved dyes. When ink remains idle, particles may settle or agglomerate, while fast-drying liquid at the nozzle can lose moisture or solvent and become more concentrated.
TIJ printheads use fine nozzle channels. If material dries or accumulates near those channels, some nozzles may not eject correctly. The first warning may be missing strokes, fine white lines through the printed code, uneven density or an incomplete first print after an idle period.
BENTSAI's E62P/E64P series user manual notes that certain fast-drying or pigment-based inks can partially clog when a printhead sits idle. It also describes model functions such as idle purge and nozzle cleaning. This does not mean every white cartridge will clog; it means buyers need realistic operating expectations.
This is not automatically a BENTSAI defect
Settling, drying and nozzle sensitivity are formulation and fine-nozzle inkjet considerations. They are not unique to one printer brand. Cartridge design, ink chemistry, operating environment, idle pattern and operator practice all influence the result.
A recurring defect still needs investigation. It may involve the cartridge, storage, configuration, nozzle, substrate or operating method. Do not assume that every issue is “normal for white ink” or that every blockage proves a printer fault.
Why PTS does not keep white ink as standard ready stock

PTS therefore arranges white ink against a confirmed requirement rather than promising permanent ready stock. This reduces unnecessary ageing and waste; it does not mean white ink is unavailable.
A small backup quantity may occasionally be available, but availability can change. Before issuing a purchase order or scheduling a production run, ask PTS to confirm:
- the exact cartridge SKU and compatible printer model;
- any firmware or configuration requirement;
- current stock status and expected supply timing;
- the expiry information for the batch to be supplied; and
- the storage and after-opening instructions for that exact cartridge.
There is no responsible universal statement such as “all white TIJ ink lasts for a fixed number of months.” The cartridge label, current technical data and batch information must take priority.
Confirm compatibility before ordering
Current BENTSAI literature lists white as a solvent-based colour option for selected configurations, but compatibility is not universal. BENTSAI's official BT22W page identifies the BT-HH6205B and BT-HH6205BL and gives model- or firmware-specific conditions for some earlier printers.

A practical white-ink evaluation workflow
- Provide the actual substrate. A production sample is more useful than a material name or photograph because coatings and surface treatments can change the result.
- Define the real message. Supply the intended text, date, batch number, logo or machine-readable code, together with the required print size.
- Describe the operating conditions. Include line speed, printing orientation, workplace conditions, typical shift pattern and expected idle periods.
- Confirm the printer-cartridge combination. PTS should check the model, firmware where relevant, cartridge SKU and current manufacturer guidance.
- Test and inspect. Evaluate contrast, character completeness, drying and adhesion on the real material after normal production handling. If a barcode or 2D code is involved, verify it with the scanner and process that will be used in production.
- Repeat after a realistic idle interval. Check the first prints after the printer has been idle for a period that reflects actual work, changeovers or breaks.
- Approve the exact combination. Record the approved printer, cartridge, substrate, message settings and operating method rather than approving “white ink” in general.
Plan stock without creating avoidable waste
Buying a large contingency quantity is not always the safest approach. Estimate consumption from actual code size, print frequency and production volume, then balance that demand against confirmed lead time and batch expiry.
Record the receipt, batch, expiry and opening dates, and use the earliest-expiring suitable stock first. Follow the exact cartridge instructions: some configurations require capping or removal during idle periods, while others provide purge or nozzle-cleaning functions. Do not copy a routine from another cartridge family.

When white ink may not be the practical choice
White ink deserves careful evaluation when production volume is very low, idle periods are long or the code can be moved to a light-coloured panel. In some cases, changing the print location or using another verified marking method may be operationally simpler.
If standard black ink already produces a clear, durable code on a light surface, it is usually easier to source and manage. White ink becomes relevant when the contrast requirement justifies the additional testing, handling and stock discipline.
White ink is an option, not an automatic recommendation
PTS offers white TIJ ink because some Malaysian factories genuinely need a visible code on dark material. The responsible approach is not to describe it as perfect or maintenance-free. It is to explain the trade-offs, test the real application and confirm a supply plan before production depends on it.
