4. Select ink by material and operating conditions

Water-based and solvent-based TIJ ink families are intended for different applications. No ink should be assumed to work on every ladder finish without testing.

6. Inspect more than the first print

7. Record the approved combination

If the result is accepted, document the printer, cartridge, ink colour, message file, print position, guide, operator method and inspection criteria. This prevents a successful demonstration from becoming an undefined process that is difficult to repeat later.

Handheld printing versus labels

Handheld direct printing may reduce reliance on pre-printed stickers for supported applications, especially where the message changes by batch, job or product. It can also be useful when products are too long or bulky for a normal desk-based printer.
