PTS Technology recently supported a Malaysian customer who needed large, visible identification printed along a flexible layflat fire hose. After evaluating the customer's actual sample, the BENTSAI B85 wide-format thermal inkjet printer was selected for the application.

The Printing Requirement

The customer needed to print large identification text directly on the textured hose surface. Compared with small date or batch coding, this application required a wider print area, clear characters and a handheld system that could follow a long, flexible product.

Why the BENTSAI B85 Was Selected

The BENTSAI B85 supports an adjustable print height of approximately 2.5 mm to 92 mm using four modular printheads. It can print text, numbers, dates, counters, logos, barcodes and QR codes, depending on the selected setup and artwork.

• Handheld operation for large or difficult-to-move items
• Up to 40 lines of content, subject to layout and print height
• Supports water-based and solvent-based ink cartridge families for different materials
• Can also be evaluated for supported inline applications

For this customer, the wide print capability and portable format made the B85 a practical model to evaluate for the hose-marking requirement.

Actual-Sample Evaluation Is Important

Flexible hoses can differ in material, texture, surface treatment, colour and cleanliness. Ink adhesion and print appearance may also change according to the cartridge, printing distance, operating method and environment. PTS therefore recommends testing the customer's actual sample before purchase or production use.

Other Potential B85 Applications

The B85 may also be evaluated for large-character marking on cartons, timber, construction materials, hardware, pipes, panels and other industrial items, subject to sample testing and the appropriate ink selection.
