The BENTSAI E64P-4 is a four-head industrial thermal inkjet (TIJ) printer for inline coding on conveyors and packaging lines in Malaysia. Its printheads can be configured for stitched large-format printing or separate coding tasks. With four 25.4 mm (1-inch) printheads in the appropriate stitched configuration, the system supports a maximum print height of up to 100 mm. With four 12.7 mm (0.5-inch) printheads, the maximum stitched height is up to 50 mm.

It is designed for printing batch numbers, manufacturing and expiry dates, serial numbers, counters, text, logos, linear barcodes, QR codes, Data Matrix codes and database-driven variable information. Actual print quality, adhesion and production speed depend on the selected cartridge, resolution, substrate, line conditions and installation.

Choose the print height and cartridge format correctly

The E64P-4 accepts compatible 0.5-inch and 1-inch cartridge configurations. Print height is determined by the installed printhead plates and the number of heads used. The 100 mm figure should not be interpreted as the height from a single cartridge.

Manufacturer-listed print-height range: 2.5–12.7 mm, 2.5–25.4 mm, 2.5–50 mm or 2.5–100 mm, depending on configuration. Maximum print length is 2100 mm.

Resolution and speed: the figures depend on the printhead

For a fair production-line assessment, speed and resolution must be stated together. Higher horizontal resolution generally requires a lower line speed. The manufacturer lists the following maximum values:

Selectable horizontal resolutions are 75, 100, 150, 200, 300, 600 and 1200 dpi. The best setting should be validated using the real conveyor speed, message width, barcode size and substrate.

Supported content and code formats

The printer supports text, numbers, images, dates, time, counters, database information and dynamic data. Supported image formats include JPG, JPEG, PNG and BMP. Supported 2D formats include QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, Grid Matrix, GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 QR, Truncated PDF417, MaxiCode and MicroPDF417. Linear formats include commonly used Code 39, Code 128, EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, ITF-14, Code 93, GS1-128 and GS1 DataBar variants.

Important: the ability to print a GS1 code format does not by itself make a production process compliant. Data structure, code size, quiet zones, verification, record control and the applicable customer or regulatory requirement must be checked separately.

Ink and substrate selection

BENTSAI documentation lists water-based inks for porous and semi-porous materials such as paper, corrugated board, wood, fibreboard and textile. Solvent-based inks are listed for semi-porous and non-porous materials such as plastic, glass, metal plate, aluminium foil and cable. Available colours vary by ink family.

Ink compatibility is application-specific. Surface treatment, coating, condensation, oil, dust, temperature, line speed and required rub resistance can affect adhesion. PTS Technology recommends a sample print and adhesion check on the actual packaging material before production approval. The specified nozzle-to-product throw distance is 2–5 mm.

Inline integration and workflow features

An optical sensor can trigger printing as the product reaches the coding position. Where conveyor speed varies, an optional encoder can be used to synchronise printing with line movement. The controller also supports status indication through an optional beacon connection. Print reports and a cost-calculation function are available; the cost calculation uses the selected resolution, an entered cartridge price and planned print quantity to provide an estimate.

The printer supports TrueType and dot-matrix fonts, with third-party fonts importable by USB. Its four-head architecture can be configured for stitched printing or independent printhead tasks, but the final layout should be confirmed against available space, sensor position, conveyor direction and required print location.
